About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Manchester City continued their dominant run in the Premier League with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium. This result was largely expected given City's strong form and Fulham's struggles this season. The home side controlled the game from the outset, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. The match saw Manchester City take the lead in the 24th minute through Antoine Semenyo (GAP +1.4%), who capitalized on a well-worked team move. Just six minutes later, Nico O'Reilly doubled the advantage, further asserting City's dominance. Erling Haaland (GAP +5.7%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 39th minute, demonstrating his clinical finishing ability. Tactically, Manchester City manager made two changes to the lineup, bringing in Ruben Dias (GAP +10.3%) and Phil Foden (GAP +6.6%) for Omar Marmoush and Abduqodir Khusanov. These changes bolstered City's defense and midfield, with Dias particularly influential in maintaining a clean sheet. Fulham also made two changes, with Kenny Tete (GAP +0.3%) and Calvin Bassey coming in for Timothy Castagne and Jorge Cuenca, but these adjustments were unable to stem the tide of City's attack. Gianluigi Donnarumma (GAP +5.8%) was solid in goal for Manchester City, ensuring that Fulham's few chances were comfortably dealt with. Ruben Dias's performance was particularly noteworthy, as he not only contributed defensively but also played a key role in building attacks from the back. This victory keeps Manchester City firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title, maintaining their momentum with another three points. Fulham, on the other hand, remain in a precarious position, needing to find form quickly to avoid being dragged further into a relegation battle. The result reflects the current trajectories of both teams, with City looking to capitalize on their strong form and Fulham needing to regroup and strategize for upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
